Imaginary Friend Bloghop

First of all, if you're searching for my entry for The World Building Blogfest, you can find it HERE.  If you want to help me Celebrate the Small Things, you can do that HERE.

Today is the day of the Imaginary Friend Bloghop!  This one is co-hosted by Kyra Lennon and Annalisa Crawford.

What is this bloghop about?  In Kyra's words:
We want to know about your imaginary friend. What were they called? How old were you? Were they naughty or nice? If you didn't have one, were there ever times when you could really have used one? Did you ever set fire to your mum's favourite rug and have to take the blame yourself?

As a kid with an overactive imagination, I had an entire entourage of imaginary friends.  Some from movies and books, and others that I wrote into my own stories.  I never introduced any of them as my imaginary friends.  They were my secret friends that no one else could see or know.

In going by my definition of imaginary friends, I still have them.  They gain life through my stories, and they stay with me long after the story is done.

For this bloghop, I decided to write a poem about the virtues of having an imaginary friend, or in my case, a whole horde of them.

Friends Imagined

Sleep tight, little girl.
They’re coming for you soon.
A starship full of friends
to take you beyond the moon.
Don’t you worry little girl,
There are adventures to be had.
An alien prince and his spunky sister
will make happy out of sad.
They’ll listen to and understand
all you have to say.
He’ll hold your hand,
and think you’re pretty.
She’ll outsmart the bad buys;
make you laugh when she’s witty.
You’ll grow up and seek new things
and they’ll grow along with you.
More will jump into the mix
and help with what you’re going through.
Imaginary friends are always there,
living on the bookshelf in your mind.
If you get to know them better,
your true self, you will find.
