Express Yourself: Getting Crafty

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The question for this week is: What are some crafty/handy things you do or wish you did?

I wouldn't say I'm the craftiest person in the world, but I do have some skills.  I learned to sew in high school, and I particularly enjoyed quilting.  I did several small, decorative quilts over a period of a couple of years.  It's a craft I haven't done in awhile, but I think I'd like to try my hand at it again sometime.  I'd post a picture of one of them for you, but I've given most of them away.  The ones I still have are currently nowhere to be found.  It's amazing how things can get lost in the depths of your closets, isn't it?

One crafty thing I always wished I could do is cake decorating.  I like to watch Food Network, and I marvel at how some people can make a cake into a true work of art.  My cakes, on the other hand, are never anything nice to look at.  I posted these pictures awhile back, but I'll share them again to remind all of you that my cake skills are in fact practically nonexistent.

(WARNING!  If you are easily offended by bad words, don't read the writing on this cake!)

At least it tasted all right.  That's about all I can say for it.

  1. I like your cake! We made a gingerbread house once that had to be condemned...

  2. Some day I'll send you a picture of the birthday cake my sister and I created for my son's 21st birthday. He was embarrassed for weeks!
If it tasted good, that's all that counts!

I wish I knew how to sew. Years ago, in Home Ec, I just couldn't "get" it. :(
