Musing About My Blog

I decided that I need to officially tweak my blogging schedule to accommodate all of the things I've committed myself to over the last couple of months.  The changes aren't drastic, but I think it's about time I simplified things for myself. After all, I need to balance blogging with the rest of my writing, and it will help if I know exactly what I'll be posting and when I'll be doing it.  Since I signed on for new weekly memes, which are great because they keep me thinking, I've been struggling to decide when to post them.  If I incorporate them into my schedule, that should help.

Regular Posts

Sunday: Blogspiration

This meme was started by Growing Up YA and Saz 101. It's been great for me, because it lets me share inspiration with my fellow bloggers.  It also helps inspire me as well.  Who among us couldn't use that?  I'm hoping to have these posts up each Sunday, though if anything comes up, I'll post my Blogspiration on Monday instead.

Monday: Meeting With My Muse

These posts are by no means my most popular, but they're certainly useful for me.  By writing these posts, I clarify my goals and hold myself accountable for them.  For me, that's a critical part of what this blog is about.

Tuesday: Express Yourself

Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests started this meme, and I'm excited about getting involved in it.  The prompts are provided, so all I have to do is take it from there. This will give me the opportunity to network with fellow bloggers as well, which is always a good thing.

1st Wednesday of Each Month: IWSG

On the first Wednesday of each month, this will be my  scheduled Wednesday post.  It's hard to cram two major posts into one day, and IWSG posts are important to me because they make me feel like a part of a larger writing community.  Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for creating such an awesome group!

Non-IWSG Wednesdays: Worldly Wednesday

I wanted to keep doing this Wednesday posts, because they give me a good chance to address issues related to language.  I care about the power of language, freedom of speech, the threat of censorship, and other things like that.  However, I also like to have fun with words.  From week to week, the direction of these posts may differ, but they'll all be connected through the theme of language.

Friday: I'll Flash You Friday

This is where I get to share my stories with the blogging world.  I enjoy the challenge of posting a new flash piece each week, and sharing these stories on Friday Flash Dot Org has helped me bring more traffic to my blog.  Though it isn't easy to keep up with this commitment while working on my other projects, it's a challenge that I feel is paying off for me.

Optional Posts

Tuesday: Tuesday Treat

I decided to take this regular post and turn it into an optional one.  If I see something fun that I really want to share that doesn't fit in with the theme of my other scheduled posts, I'll share it on a Tuesday as an additional post.  I'll still do Tuesday's Express Yourself post either way.

Thursday or Saturday: Tea Time

I first created this as an optional Thursday post.  I made the joke that, as a lover of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I too could never get the hang of Thursdays.  Notice that I still don't have a regular post scheduled for Thursdays.  There's a reason for this.  That day of the week tends to be hectic.  I'll still use this badge for Thursday posts.  However, if I do a post on Saturday, for which I also have no scheduled posts, I'll also label that as a Tea Time post.

So, that's my plan anyway.  I haven't cleared this with Pleiades yet.  We'll just see how she reacts when she reads this.  Personally I think it will work for me.  It feels like a good mixture of self-reflection, inspiration, community-building, and fiction.  These are all things that writers need.

  1. I think blog schedules are a good idea - especially for people whose lives get crazy! It's useful to know what you'll be doing on any given day instead of winging it lol!

  2. I feel so unorganized now...
I do keep a calendar so I know when I have guests. Or when I'm the guest.
Glad you are helping as a co-host for the IWSG next month!
