Insecure Writer's Support Group: January 2014

It's time for the first Insecure Writer's Support Group of 2014!  Our Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh started this mighty group, and I predict it will continue to grow and inspire many writers in the coming year.  The co-hosting minions for this month are Bob Milne, River Fairchild, Julie Dao, and Sarah Foster.

Be sure to check out the IWSG website and Facebook group for additional writerly support!

Also, my Endings Blogfest is tomorrow!  Check it out and sign up if you're interested!

I'd like to first of all thank all of my blogging friends who've offered me words of encouragement over the past year.  No matter what happens to discourage me, I'll always know that you're there to motivate me when I need it.

The beginning of a new year brings a new sense of motivation and hope for me when it comes to my writing.  Everything feels possible.  I have a lot of hopes for 2014.  There's a nagging insecurity in the back of my mind that I might soon lose momentum, though.  After all, how many people fail to keep up with their New Year's resolutions?  A lot.  (Funny side note-I heard a friend say their resolution is to stop making resolutions.  Unfortunately, the fact that they made the resolution means they automatically failed.  Oh well.)

The best I can do to beat that insecurity is to keep writing.  I won't put so much pressure on myself that I crack.  I just need to find a good way to motivate myself.  There are times, after all, when the words flow easily, and others when my muse goes on hiatus.  If any of my wise writing friends out there have any good suggestions for how to motivate myself to write during those more difficult writing patches, please share them!  We all need a little help from time to time.

What are your hopes and/or goals for 2014?

  1. I think not pressuring yourself during those times when your muse vanishes is the best way to get it back!

  2. Some days are good and some are not. When you can live with that, nothing can stop you.

  3. Good luck with your writing! I think you're right; just keep writing, and let that be your goal. Even a few words are better than none.

  4. I'm right there with you, in every way. Highly motivated/hopeful and highly concerned that I'll fail to translate that motivation into action. My goal for this year is to write everyday. So far I haven't done it. I need to get cracking...

  5. All the experts say the same thing and I'm inclined to agree. Write even when you don't feel motivated to do so. Something on the screen is better than nothing. Happy New Year.

  6. Keep writing. Keep writing. That's all it truly amounts to. :)

  7. Man, I can't believe I missed this! I'd meant to sign up for it but time got away from me! I'm sorry I forgot, I'd wanted to support you with this 'fest. Meanwhile, it seems you got plenty of support without me! :-) Belated wishes for a happy bloggiversary!

  8. Being optimistic about the future is half the goal. Just ignore those nagging worries in the back of your mind. No need to worry that you will worry down the road.

My goals are few. I want to finish revising a couple of novels and begin querying.

Good luck and Happy New Year!
