Express Yourself: 5 Books You Would/Would Not Live In

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The prompt for this week is: List 5 books you would NOT want to live in. Then list 5 you would.

First of all, there are a lot of dystopian futures portrayed that I would not like to experience firsthand.  Reading about them may be enjoyable for me, but I definitely would not want to set foot in these worlds.

The Hunger Games (series) by Suzanne Collins
Legend (trilogy) by Marie Lu
The Culling by Steven dos Santos
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
1984 by George Orwell

Now here are the 5 that I would like to live in.  These novels may have elements of conflict that I would like to avoid, but the worlds are so well imagined that I still want to step inside them and walk around awhile.  They are not perfect worlds, but they are entertaining, downright hilarious, or filled with hope.

Harry Potter (series) by J.K. Rowling
Discworld (series) by Terry Pratchett
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

Which books would you choose?

  1. I'm reading NEVERWHERE right now. Can't say I'd like to live in it, or CLOUD ATLAS!

  2. I would like to live someplace funny or fun. Whenever I want to just laugh I read a Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich. I wouldn't mind stepping into that world and just enjoying Stephanie and her crazy life. Plus, I would spend some time cuddling up to Ranger. Now that would be a treat.

  3. @Alex, excellent choice. I'd also love to have schooled at Hogwarts, and would love to be Sookie Stackhouse's longterm house guest or maybe Bonnie's buddy in Mystic Falls. I'd hate to live through anything with zombies. I love to read and watch, but would not want to be a survivor of an apocalypse. I'm far to slow and fretful. I'd be utterly useless to anyone I teamed up with too.

  4. It is much easier for me to come up with book worlds I wouldn't want to live in: Like I Am Legend and Ender's Game. Part of the thrill for me is appreciating the world I live in even more when I'm done reading about all of the horrors of these other worlds!

  5. I think I'd last about two minutes in The Hunger Games! If I could live in a screenplay, I'd choose Midnight In Paris. This was fun, LG!

  6. Harry Potter and Hunger Games would both be on my "no" list.
