This has been an exciting week for me since the cover art for the IWSG anthology was released.  It's crazy to see the title of my story on the cover, along with cover art inspired by my story.  This has put me in a pretty optimistic mood.

I haven't gotten a lot of writing done this week, but that's because I did a lot of reading.  At the end of the day, I can hardly complain about that.  Reading is an excellent way of passing the time.

I will, have an opportunity to catch up on the writing I missed out on doing over the weekend though.  Provided I manage my time wisely, of course.  That's always the tricky part.

I finished the rough draft to a short story this week, so I'm happy about that.  I'm now working on the rough draft to a novella, and I'll probably return to the short story to revise it after I finish the novella rough draft.  It seems like there's always something to do.

The weather has been really cold this past week with subzero wind chills, but it's started to warm up again.  I'm grateful for that.  I can tolerate the cold, but I definitely don't enjoy it.

Celebrate the Small Things-January 15, 2016

It's been a crazy week.  How did the world lose so much talent in one week?  Seriously. The world has been reeling from the deaths of David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and several others over a short period of time.  It's sad that these creative geniuses will no longer be able to contribute any new work to our world, but the work they have done will live on.   I'd like to celebrate the lives of all the creative people who have kindly left us with some amazing works that we'll be able to cherish for many years to come. Thank you for everything.

I submitted a story to Daily Science Fiction this week, so that means I am 1/6th of the way to reaching my submission goal for the year.  Whether it is excepted or rejected, that is still something to celebrate.

I've written and scheduled two posts for the April A to Z Challenge already.  I wanted to get a head start so I don't end up falling behind.  For those of you who are planning to participate, sign-ups for the challenge start on January 25th.

4 Years!

As of today, I've been blogging for 4 years.  The day I wrote that first post, I kind of did it on a whim.  I'd heard people say that if you want to make it as a writer, starting a blog was a good step to take.  One day I just decided to do it, and I'm glad that I did!  It was one of the best decisions I could have made.

In the past, I've had a blogfest to celebrate each blogoversary.  This year I didn't get around to it.  Why?  I've just been too busy with writing.  That's not a bad thing, either.

Thank you.  Thank you for following me.  Thank you for leaving words of encouragement.  Thank you for providing me with a wonderful online community.

Celebrate the Small Things-January 8, 2016

It's Friday!  Let's Celebrate the Small Things with Lexa Cain!  Tonja Drecker and I are her co-hosts.

It's been a heck of a week for me.  I co-hosted the Insecure Writer's Support Group on Wednesday.  That kept me plenty busy, but as always, it was a lot of fun. The IWSG admins also announced the winners of the anthology contest that day, and my short story "Felix Was Here" was selected as the winner.  I'm not going to lie. When I first found out that I'd won, it was a shock.  The competition was stiff.  You only have to look at the list of entries that made the anthology to see that.  Heck, you only need to look at a list of IWSG members to know that's the case.  We may be an insecure bunch, but there's plenty of talent to be found.

Anyway, since that happened, I have a guest post appearing on Monday, January 11th on the IWSG website about submitting to anthologies.  If you're interested, check it out!

Life is starting to settle back into a regular routine after the holiday craziness.  That'll be good for my writing schedule.  As much as I love that time of year, normalcy is a good thing too.

One of my closest friends is expecting a baby girl any day now.  Her due date was actually January 6th, so it's just a waiting game at this point.  I know she's anxious and ready to get it over with.  This is her third child, so she knows as well as anyone how hard it is to guess when the baby will decide to make an appearance.

The Insecure Writer's Support Group-January 2016

It's the first Wednesday of the month!  That means it's time to reconvene the Insecure Writer's Support Group for another meeting!  The ever-elusive yet astonishingly pervasive Alex J. Cavanaugh is our esteemed leader.  Today he is assisted by Denise Covey, Sheri Larsen, J.Q. Rose, Chemist Ken, Michelle Wallace, and me!

This is a big post for me.  Not only am I co-hosting today, which is always an enjoyable experience, the winners of the anthology contest are also being announced. As some of you may already know, the winner is . . . me.

Wow.

I'm grateful there's no video evidence documenting the moment when I found out I'd won.  That would be a wee bit embarrassing.  My kids certainly thought I'd lost my mind.  All I can say is that I'm grateful for the opportunity that being a part of this group has given me.

This whole thing has boosted my confidence, so I'm not feeling as insecure as I normally might.  I have, however, been a little reflective.  I went back to look at the first post I wrote for IWSG back in May 2012.  I started blogging that January, and though I'd been seeing plenty about IWSG in my blog feed, it took a few months for me to gather the courage to sign up.  Yeah, I initially felt too insecure to join up to talk about my insecurities.  I'm glad I finally pushed past that fear, because if I hadn't, I wouldn't be where I am today.

I'm grateful for everyone who has worked to make this group the success that it is, and I'd like to congratulate everyone else that made it into the anthology.  2016 is shaping up to be a great year for me, and I hope it's great for all of you as well!

First of all, Happy New Year!

I can't believe that this is my first blog post of 2016.  How did we get this far into the new millenium already?  Seriously, time is going by far too fast.

My kids had a wonderful Christmas.  Our house is littered with toys.  It always takes us a little time to rearrange the toy room to accommodate the new additions.

I got a new writing desk, which is awesome!  I'll make good use of it.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a wonderful 2016, both for myself and for all of you.
