Blogspiration 7: Our Mote of Dust

There's nothing like looking up at the night sky to make you realize how large it all is. Even more humbling is the view of Earth from 4 billion miles away.

Taken from HERE.
Sometimes we get bogged down in politics and suspicions and forget about how much there is to see beyond our world.  Looking at our world this way, I think we just may have far more in common with one another than we might think.

  1. Very cool. I love that feeling of insignificance - makes me feel peaceful. I may just dig up a Sagan novel for tonight. Cheers.

  5. And, if we listen very closely, we might even hear a Who. Thanks, L.G. :)

  6. That's such a beautiful quote. Like Suzanne said, puts it all in perspective. All our small insecurities and jealousies and fears and wishes which are huge and important to us...all just infintesmal specks on the bigger mote of dust.
    Love it.

  7. Oh, WOW.
I ADORE Carl Sagan, but I've never heard this one before. Honestly, I saw this, instantly stopped what I was doing and link-spammed Kristin... this is just... wow. I know it's hackneyed, and been said a thousand times, but it really *DOES* make you think. Wow.

  8. Yeah, I love to think of the universe relative to us in this way. It helps us realize that we are very small compared to the size of all that space out there. All our problems seem large to us, but on the scale of time and space, they are just a grain of sand in a vast sea, the blink of an eye.

Here's my Blogspiration post for this week: http://cathykeatonwrites.blogspot.com/2012/07/blogspiration-is-weekly-blog-meme.html

  9. OMG! Sarah messaged me this link and I was immediately FLOORED!!! This puts all of our fears, insecurities and worries into perspective!

In the words of Bill and Ted, "All we are is dust in the wind, dude."

  10. You know, I've read that quote before, but there's something about it this time that makes it different somehow. I guess it's since I'm having a difficult time, but... it does put things into perspective, as Suzanne said. Everything that's going on has been happening on one planet. One small planet. It's humbling.

    Thank you. :)
