A Special Announcement!

In my post on Friday, I said I had two pieces of exciting news to announce, but I had to wait until the right time.  Well, I can announce one of them now.  The other will have to wait just a bit longer.

I recently submitted a story for an anthology.  Circuits & Slippers features classic fairy tales told through the lens of science fiction.  I decided to write and submit a science fiction retelling of Beauty and the Beast.  I was thrilled when I found out my story "Treating the Beast" was selected to appear in the anthology!

Circuits & Slippers is scheduled to be released in September of this year.  Click here to see the complete list of authors included in the anthology.

I'm so excited to be a part of this project!

Celebrate the Small Things-May 27, 2016

It's Friday!  Let's Celebrate the Small Things with Lexa Cain.  Tonja Drecker and I are her co-hosts.

I'm not going to lie.  It's been a bit of a rough week.  The illness I mentioned last week spread throughout the house.  I got sick.  My oldest son Jude got sick.  No fun.  One of our cars also broke down.  We still haven't gotten it fixed, either.  With my husband at work and illness prevailing, it's hard to deal with those kinds of things.

Still, even with all that, there's been plenty to celebrate.  I got a piece of good news this week, though I'm not yet able to share what it is.  I promise I'll let all of you know as soon as I can!  That makes for two pieces of good news that I'm sitting on for now.  Keeping good news quiet can be difficult sometimes, can't it?

Jude also had a showcase at school this week.  He made models of the Sun, Earth, and the Moon.  I think they looked pretty neat.  Here's a picture.

Celebrate the Small Things-May 20, 2016

It's Friday!  Let's Celebrate the Small Things with Lexa Cain. Tonja Drecker and I are her co-hosts.

My youngest son Lyle came down with a stomach bug last night.  It involved a fever of 101 and vomiting, but now he's keeping down everything he eats and he isn't running a temperature.  I'm glad this bug, unpleasant as it has been, seems to be running its course quickly.  Fingers crossed that no one else in this house catches it.

Jude lost another tooth.  Now he doesn't have either of his top front teeth.  Eating is going to be a challenge for a little while.

I got something amazing in the mail this week.

Isn't it great?  It's so cool seeing my story in print.  As a writer, that's one of the best feelings in the world.

I'm making progress on my WIP.  Not as much as I'd hoped for the week, but it's progress nonetheless.  I'll take it.

A to Z Challenge Reflections and Celebrate the Small Things-May 13, 2016

It's hard to believe that the A to Z Challenge is almost two weeks behind us.  I'm still feeling a bit of blogging fatigue, as I'm sure many others are.

I'm glad I decided to offer writing advice for my challenge theme this year.  My goal was to hopefully help fellow writers as well as to boost my own confidence as a writer.  I don't know how much my advice actually resonated with anyone (though I did receive a lot of supportive comments!), I did feel more confident after writing each post.  You don't always realize how much you've learned and grown as a writer until you take the time to offer assistance to others.

I definitely plan to pre-write all of my posts again next year. Doing that made the rest of the challenge so much easier. I'm also glad that I took part in the A to Z Twitter chats.  I met a lot of great people that way.  I'd highly recommend anyone who hasn't done a Twitter chat try it at least once next year.

It's Friday!  Let's Celebrate the Small Things with Lexa Cain!  Tonja Drecker and I are her co-hosts.

My youngest son Lyle turned five this week.  I can't believe he's gotten so big.  Here's a picture he had taken at school for his birthday.

The kids have been helping me tend to a garden we planted. Last Friday it was really warm outside, and when we went to water the plants, my oldest son Jude turned the hose and Lyle and me.  It turned into a full-out water fight.  I guess you're never too old to be involved in a water fight.

Celebrate the Small Things-May 6, 2016

It's Friday!  Let's Celebrate the Small Things with Lexa Cain!  Tonja Drecker and I are her co-hosts.

This has been a crazy week!  As all of you must know, the IWSG anthology Parallels: Felix Was Here came out.  Being a part of this whole thing has been amazing!

I finished and submitted a short story.  Whether it's accepted or rejected, this still means I've submitted three short stories so far in 2016.  Considering I set a goal of submitting six short stories, I'm well on track to fulfill that goal.  I'm happy about that.

I've jumped into novella revision, and while it's a challenging task, I'm making progress.

The weather here has been gorgeous the last couple of days. I've been spending a lot of time outside with the kids.  And speaking of kids, Lyle's birthday is next Wednesday.  He's going to be five, and he's excited about it.  It's all he can talk about.

I'm here to let everyone know that the authors of the IWSG anthology Parallels: Felix Was Here have a guest post up at Misha Gericke's blog.  The post is about thought experiments. If you're interested, please stop by and see it HERE.

Have a good day everyone!

The Insecure Writer's Support Group: May 2016

It's the first Wednesday of the month!  That means it's also time for another meeting of the Insecure Writer's Support Group.  This group was founded by Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh.  His co-hosting minions for this month are Stephen Tremp, Fundy Blue, M.J. Fifield, Loni Townsend, Bish Denham, Susan Gourley, and Stephanie Faris.

Be sure to check out the IWSG website!

The big news this month is that the IWSG anthology

Parallels: Felix Was Here is now available!  I'm super excited to be a part of this, and I hope everyone who gets a copy enjoys reading it.

I'm just finishing up a story for submission, and I'm nervous about it. Bracing for potential rejection is never fun, but it's all part of the process.

I'll also be entering the revision stage on my latest novella once I'm done with that short story.  I'm always insecure about revision, but I think I've been getting better about it over the last year or so.  I definitely don't have as much anxiety about it as I used to.

What are you insecure or excited about this month?

Happy Release Day!

Release day has arrived!  The IWSG anthology is now available!  It has been such an honor to be a part of all this, especially since so many talented authors are included in this anthology.

Interesting sidenote.  This also happens to be my 1,000th blog post.  Yeah, I know how to yammer on, don't I?

Anyway, I should get back to the point of this post.

Over on the Parallels blog, each author pledged to give away a free copy of the anthology.  I'm giving away an e-copy, and the winner is:

Nilanjana Bose @ Madly-in-Verse

Congratulations!

Now, for those of you who want to learn more about the book and how you can get a copy for yourself, read on!  I hope people enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing "Felix Was Here" and collaborating with my fellow authors in promoting this book.
