All right. It's once again time to dust off my brain and devise a question to ask all of you. Hmmm . . . What evil, mad scientist query can I make of all of you?
All right, I should play nice. For those of you who are kind enough to read what I have to say, it wouldn't be fair to subject you to anything too cruel.
Okay, I've got it. And I truly am coming up with this as I write this post, because nothing gets my creative juices flowing better than actually putting pen to paper, or in this case, fingers to keyboard. Since I'm attempting to be a real, bona fide writer, this is probably a desirable thing.
What influences or inspires you? This seems like a good question, because I'm not hunting for anything specific. You can run with it any way you like. You may share a person who has helped guide you, you may recount a certain event that shaped you, or you may tell me about a hobby that brings you joy and informs your writing. Anything!

One activity that inspires me is stargazing. Looking at the sky, I see so many stars, and I can scarcely dream how many planets there must be. The grandness of it all opens my mind, and the ideas, though not as numerous as the stars, come nonetheless.
Now that I've shared, hopefully some of you will share as well.
What inspires me? Wow . .. that's a long list: my faith, my family, hearing the birds outside (right now), fresh air, books that I have loved and books that I haven't loved (ok, hated), flight, taking walks and bike rides, movies, . . . and lots more.
ReplyDeleteI love what you said about stargazing!
ReplyDeleteI write a lot of poetry, and lately I've been inspired by things in nature that don't really belong there: an empty can in the middle of a field, a shoe lying in the weeds on the side of the road.. That kind of thing. :)
This is a bit off-topic, so sorry...
ReplyDeleteI accidentally came to your blog from Agent Kristin's blog, and I was thrilled to see somebody else who writes science fiction. I am also an unpublished sf writer, just putting the final polish on my best ever (and rather good I hope) novel. I've been searching for ages to find people who write sf where I live, and it's been an uphill slog. So now I'm trying to make contact with sf writers wherever they might be.
So, if you're interested in getting in touch with other struggling sf writers please reply! I'm thinking writing advice/reading and giving comments/maybe starting an online writing circle of some kind. Something like that, although I've not thought that deeply yet.
If you're interested you can mail me at: spongepaddy-at-gmail-dot-com
So please do!

I'm really into anime and manga, so I tend to get inspired by those things. But, I suppose anything can inspire me, even my own past and life experiences. Sometimes, characters I create are just like real people I once knew (but, not usually). Other stories out there do it the most, but I always detect something from my real life here and there.
ReplyDeleteHello! First I stopped by to say thank you for following my blog :)) I don't think you are on Twitter so it seemed like a good idea to leave this note. As far as my inspiration, beauty, heartache, pain, love, friendliness, tenacity, pride, upset, faith, hopelessness, circumstance, coincidence, grace. All of that inspires me to write along with the beauty of the English language when used properly. I look forward to reading more of your posts and stories L.G.!
