Welcome to 2013, and welcome to the meeting of the Insecure Writer's Support Group. Our esteemed leader is Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh, and this month he has enlisted a couple of excellent co-hosts: Jamie from Mithril Wisdom and Tyrean from Tyrean's Writing Spot. Best of luck to you both!
So, this is a new year. 2012 was the year I decided to put myself out there through blogging and sharing my writing with a wider audience. You've all been amazing! I'm glad I found such a great community of writers and readers.
Now I'm trying to decide what I want 2013 to look like. This is where most of my insecurities are coming from right now. A lot of people have been posting a list of goals for 2013. I already have an idea of what projects I want to work on this year, but I'm not going to post a specific list here. Instead, I want to adopt a specific attitude about writing this year, because at the end of the day, it's a lot easier to achieve your goals when you have the right attitude (or "write attitude") about work. Therefore, I've written myself a little pledge.
A Writer's Pledge
I am a writer.
This will not change.
I will write each day,
even if only a little.
I will read when I can,
and I will keep learning.
I will accept critique.
I will look at criticism
as a learning opportunity
and I won't be discouraged.
I will keep blogging.
I will keep sharing.
I will encourage others
and congratulate them
on their successes.
Jealousy has no place here.
I pledge to thee,
my pen will be free.
It may not be the most eloquent of pledges, but I think it's a good declaration of the attitude I want to have for the next year. It may not be easy, but nothing worth doing is easy.
If you were to make a pledge, what would you include?
Oh, and a quick reminder! My Beginnings Blogfest is a week from today! For those of you who don't know about it, click HERE to check out the details!

I think that's a very eloquent pledge. I especially like the "my pen will be free" sentiment. More writers (myself included) would do well to adopt such a philosophy.
ReplyDeleteLoving the pledge! I think we all need to adopt it and post it somewhere to keep us motivated!
ReplyDeleteI think that's a very sensible pledge that we should all abide by. If I made one for myself, it would include something about setting time to read more. I want to write more but reading is just as important. Anyway, love checking out your blog. Cheers
ReplyDelete"Nothing worth doing is easy" - words to my ears :)
ReplyDeleteI like your writer's pledge; I think it's a better way to go about the year than a myriad of resolutions that may or may not get done. Good luck!

I like the idea of a pledge-- hmmm. May have to give this some thought-- borrow a bit from yours and create my own. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pledge! I think that a great way to start off the new year.
ReplyDeletelove the pledge! Mine is just like, Write, dang it. LOL.
ReplyDeleteAnd I may have to take a break from my break to do the no-kiss blogfest.
Wonderful pledge! I will be repeating something similar to myself this year as well.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great pledge, such a great idea for all writers.
ReplyDeleteI think the pledge is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love the pledge! Every writer should have one!
ReplyDeleteYeah that pledge is pretty cool. It kind of summarizes and focuses you as you read it, similar to psyching yourself up for battle.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love your pledge.
ReplyDeleteI love your pledge! I think it's the perfect attitude for the new year!
ReplyDeleteI like your pledge very much. I pledge I won't go out during Christmas times again, unless the Dragon Cave is burning.
ReplyDeleteI love your pledge! It's great to remember to write a little and read a little, you'll always be a writer. :)
ReplyDeleteThat pledge is AWESOME! Writing a pledge is a wonderful idea, of which I'm going to follow suit. A pledge is so much nicer than another resolution. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy pledge would include the idea of never losing the pure joy I feel while writing and to always remember it's a gift from above.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do resolutions this year, I decided instead to go with a mantra or a word to plow through the year and keep me focused on my dreams and goals. I'm going with "Forward!" I love your poem!
ReplyDeleteLove your pledge. I have a guest post that day, but let me see what I can do to blend the two posts. Happy 2013!
ReplyDeleteI love your pledge! And I'm really looking forward to the Beginnings blogfest. Happy 2013 to you! :)
