Novel Films Blogfest: Day #3

Now, it's time for me to move on to the subject of this post.

Today is the last day of Madeleine Sara's Novel Films Blogfest.  This has been a fun blogfest, and I'm glad I joined in on the fun.

The question today is this: Have you read any novels where you have yet to see the films/TV adaptations?

I usually see films based on books I've enjoyed, so there aren't that many that fit into this category.  Still, I thought of a couple to share with you.

The Handmaid's Tale by Maragret Atwood

I read this book in college when I was writing a paper about how science fiction deals with the issues surrounding human reproduction.  I knew there was a film based on the book, but for one reason or another, I simply haven't seen it.  This film is just one of those that I haven't gotten around to seeing.

The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton

I read the book, of course, because I love Michael Crichton's books.  I've probably read most of them.  As for the film, I'm not sure why I haven't seen it.  I simply haven't.  I guess it's just one of those things.

I'm sure there are others.  There are so many movie and TV adaptations out there that I may simply not know that they exist.  You know how it is.  There are so many wonderful books and films to be consumed and so little time.  How can anyone possibly be bored?

Novel Films Blogfest: Days 1 and 2

Madeleine Sara over at Scribble and Edit is hosing the Novel Films Blogfest to celebrate three years of blogging.  Congratulations on this amazing milestone! We all know a lot of bloggers drop away before accomplishing such a feat!

I would have posted yesterday, but I didn't get a chance to put together and schedule a post ahead of time, and since I had a load of Labor Day plans, I was too busy to have much to do with the blogosphere yesterday.  So I thought I would make up for it by answering the questions for both yesterday and today in this post.  

Yesterday's question was this:

Are there any novels you have seen as films/TV adaptations in which the novel left you cold? or vice versa?

Or a film that surprised you and prompted you to read the novel?

I feel like choosing the second of these two options, because I had a relatively recent experience with being led to a book after seeing the film adaptation.  I saw Cloud Atlas in the theater.  I hadn't read the novel before, but after being immersed in the story and feeling drawn in by the characters and how their lives intertwined in various ways, I knew I had to read the novel.  All I can say is that David Mitchell is a mad genius.  His writing is nothing short of stunning. I was in awe of his skill as I read.  I'm glad that I found my way to this book, and I know without a doubt that I'll have to eventually read it again.

Now for today's question:

Which novels that so far haven't been made into films/TV adaptations would you like to see and why?

There are plenty of adaptations I would like to see, but here is a list of but a few. Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of practical limitations to adapting most of these, whether it's the crazy visuals or the books being too long and packed full of stuff to be adequately translated to film.  Still, this is my blog post, so practical concerns need not apply here.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Eternity's End by Jeffrey A. Carver

Doorways in the Sand by Roger Zelazny

And last but not leasr, any of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books.

Like I said, there are plenty more, but I don't want to bore you with my hopes and dreams all day.  How do you feel about books and film adaptations?
