Express Yourself: Favorite Movie of 2014

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The question for this week is:  What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2014?

I saw some good ones, so this wasn't an easy choice.  In the end though, I have to go with the off-beat, oddball movie that stuck out most vividly in my mind.

Some people love The Grand Budapest Hotel, and some hate it.  I enjoy the wry sense of humor it offers, I enjoy the style of it, and it was visually interesting.  It also has Jeff Goldblum in it, and that's always good for me.

Express Yourself: 5 Fictional Characters

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

This week's prompt is: Name FIVE fictional characters you would want to have in your life.

It'll be tough narrowing it down to five, but I'll do my best.

Neville Longbottom-Harry Potter (book and film series)
He's adorable.  He's kind.  He's loyal.  And, as it turns out, he can be quite the badass when the need arises.  Who wouldn't want someone like that in their posse?

Captain Jean-Luc Picard-Star Trek: TNG (TV series)
He's intelligent.  He's logical and diplomatic.  I would also like to see how uncomfortable he gets around my two energetic children.

Marcus Cole-Babylon 5 (TV series)
He's got great voice (and accent), and he knows how to be really annoying in a delightful way.  Yet he'll also go out of his way to make you happy, and he delivers the perfect amount of snark in tense situations.

Johanna Mason-The Hunger Games (book and film series)
She's tough, and she says what she thinks regardless of the consequences.  Brave with a good dose of crazy.  She'll definitely keep things interesting.  I also wonder how she would interact with Picard.

Luna Lovegood-Harry Potter (book and film series)
She's loyal, and she's the kind of person I could happily spend an afternoon with. You never know what she's going to say next, and as off-the-wall as she may sound sometimes, she also offers valuable bits of wisdom at the darkest times.

Express Yourself: Joining a TV Show or Movie

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The question for this week is: If you could be in any movie or TV show, as yourself, what would you choose, and what could you bring to the table?

First of all, if I could be involved in any TV show or movie, it would have to be either science fiction or fantasy.  That's where I'd have the most fun.

I'll choose two for this, one movie and one TV show.  There are so many more that I could choose, but I can't dedicate enough time to write about them all here.

As for movies, I'd love to step into the Harry Potter films.  Any one of them, or all of them, will do.  I think it would be great fun to step into that world.

As for TV shows, I'd love to spend some time on the bridge of the Enterprise.  I'd choose Star Trek: The Next Generation so I could stand next to Picard when he orders his drink: "Tea, Earl Grey, hot."

What I'd bring to the table is the same for both Harry Potter and Star Trek: TNG.  I'd like to be the traveling writer who tags along on various adventures to document them, all the while adding the occasional sarcastic one-liner into the mix.  I could also ask all kinds of impertinent questions, which is always fun. (How many lights do you see, Captain?)  I wouldn't be anything like Rita Skeeter though.  I'd try to stick to the truth of the situation, but I'd probably write about my experiences in the form of a personal memoir so I could inject my own humorous thoughts into the narrative.  Gotta give it a touch of my own personality, you know?

What movie or TV show would you like to join?

Express Yourself: Holiday Films

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The question for this week is: What holiday film(s) do you plan on viewing this season?

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation-I have to see this every year. It's a classic.

The Nightmare Before Christmas-A must for the kids.

Die Hard-Some people might question this choice, but it takes place on Christmas.  That means it counts.  It's also a movie my husband will gladly watch.

Express Yourself: Movie Character

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is brought to you by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The prompt for this week is: Name a movie character's personality who is you to a tee.

I've seen a bit of myself in a lot of characters.  A recent Harry Potter quiz determined that I am most like Hermione Granger.  I told my husband about my results, and he just gave me a look that said, "Yeah, and this is news?"  I am a bookworm, and I like to impress others with my recall of useless trivia.  At least Hermione frequently recalled facts that got them out of sticky situations.  My recall of similar facts makes me good at Trivial Pursuit, but has the unfortunate side effect of annoying a lot of people.

Then again, I also have a bit of a sarcastic attitude.  I don't go looking for fights, but I will stand up for myself when I have to.  I like to think that I'm smart, confident, and snarky like Princess Leia.  Perhaps she pulls off the confidence better than I do, but I try my best.

When it comes to the way I fail to fit in with my surroundings, I feel like Luna Lovegood.  Yes, I know, another Harry Potter character.  So what?  It fits.  I like how she's weird, but she wears her weirdness with grace.  She knows who she is, and she doesn't apologize for it.  I was weird and awkward when I was younger, but as I get older, I can embrace my strange nature more and be comfortable with it.

So, yeah, I didn't choose one,but I think I chose three that mirror certain aspects of myself quite well.  Hopefully that works well enough!
