The Insecure Writer's Support Group-January 2022

 


It's the first Wednesday of the month, and that means it's time to convene another meeting of The Insecure Writer's Support Group! Our leader Alex J. Cavanaugh has recruited another wonderful bunch of co-hosts for this month: Erika Beebe, Olga Godim, Sandra Cox, Sarah Foster, and Chemist Ken.

Rather than answer the optional question for today, I'd like to talk instead about resolutions. Yeah, I know, talking about resolutions in January isn't original, but it can still be quite helpful.

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't posted as part of IWSG for a little while. I wouldn't be lying by saying I've been busy. My kids and various other things have kept me quite busy. 

One thing I've been trying to do is lose weight and get back into shape. So far I've lost a little more than twenty pounds. I still have quite a way to go before I hit my goal, but I feel like that's a good start. Between focusing on that goal and juggling life with my kids, I've let my focus on my writing slip. Maybe it's easier to take the quiet moments I do find and use them to relax rather than motivate myself to put words on the page. Not that there's anything wrong with taking some quiet time, but I need to do a better job with how I manage that time. I need to motivate myself to get writing again.

So those are my resolutions. Continue improving my physical health, and carve out the time to write more. I know I can do it. It's just a matter of making it happen. Writing this post is one way of holding myself accountable and making things happen in 2022.

  1. That's awesome you are making your goal of losing weight. And spending time with your kids while you can is SO important. Hope you can carve a little time for your writing but also have time for your other goals and to relax. They're important too.

    I truly understand where you are. I too want to lose a few pounds and get back into playing my piano more than just looking at it sit in my living room. So I have started this year out planning to do just that.

  4. That's great you've been able to lose especially over the holidays. Just start scheduling a flexible writing time, even if it's only 15 minutes.

  6. I'm looking at losing a few pounds in the new year too. It's easy to forget that the new year is now... still in a holiday haze! Hope you can find a good balance for what you want to achieve, but don't beat yourself up about writing. It'll come back.

  7. I re-joined Weight Watchers - it seems a never-ending merry-go-round, especially as one ages and/or endures endless quarantine! Yikes! Your efforts to re-balance priorities will be rewarded. Happy New Year!

  8. 20 pounds--that's amazing! I manage my weight, but otherwise don't think too much about it anymore (I'm in my dotage). Imagine my surprise when I bought a Peloton Tread, fell in love with it, treaded about 5-6 times a week 30 minutes a time, and lost 5 pounds! Yay me!

  9. Congrats on losing the weight! It is a struggle with your body telling you 'you have to eat to survive' and you telling it 'not that much'. Keep it up!
    And finding time to write. I did it after I put my son to bed but writing to midnight every night and then getting up at 6am to go to the day job was burning the candle at both ends. Hope you can find your balance this year.

  10. I am struggling through making resolutions ATM, lol. For three weeks I've been thinking on it and frustrated with why I'm struggling. Realized I needed to update my mood board as so many of the previous visions had been achieved. So working through that and hoping it will help me set goals.

    Like you, writing and weight loss are going to be in there.

  11. I'm struggling to make resolutions, but I really like yours!
    I think I'm also going to work on my health, and try to write more often, while also keeping up in school.

  12. I'm glad you're back and hope you do well with your resolutions! I need to change my diet for health reasons (to follow an anti-inflammatory diet), but I'm having trouble taking that initial plunge. As for resolutions, I'm going to sit and think about them and post at some point this month.

  13. I hate resolutions and goal-setting. I'd just get disappointed if I don't achieve those goals, and we have enough trauma in the media today to add to that. Just doing my best is good enough for me. But I'm glad you rejoined this blog hop.

  14. Mine are: Lose the weight I lost two years ago and gained back, and then lose more to reach my goal weight. (4 lbs. down so far.) Write more and focus on my writing and marketing as a business. I bought a house and moved, then changed jobs sooner than planned, because of the vax mandate; but now I'm settled in and ready to carve out time for author me. I'm glad to see you back on IWSG. :)
