WEP August 2022 Challenge: Moonlight Sonata

It's time once again for another Write...Edit...Publish challenge. This month's musical prompt is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. If you'd like to join in, feel free to visit the WEP site!

At first, I wasn't certain how to tackle the prompt this month. I've been busy getting my kids rady to go back to school next week, so that's had my mind preoccupied. Then I got an email from the school district, and the contents of that email provided me with the inspiration I needed.

This wasn't an instance of being joyfully inspired. In fact, the email left me feeling sad and worried. The United States has been struggling with a shortage of teachers over the past few years, but my children hadn't really felt the effects of that shortage like the will be this year. My two boys are in middle school, and this year they have yet to find a science teacher and a band director. They plan on having a long-term substitute teach science until they can find someone permanent, but who knows how long that will be? The position has already been open and advertised for months. As for the band director, there is no real solution. The school is trying to find people willing to teach some private lessons for interested students, and they're still searching for someone to fill the job. As of now, though, there will be no band. My oldest plays the saxophone, and my other son plays the drums. They were so excited to start learning how to play, and they enjoyed playing music with their bandmates. Now they're disappointed that's not happening this year. I'm hoping the school finds someone so they can start band back up partway through the school year, but with the number of teaching positions left unfilled across my state right now, it's feeling bleak.

Teachers are so important, and they have such a tough job. We need to find a way to draw more people to this vital profession and to keep them in it. So much of the future depends on it.

Anyway, thank you for tolerating my brief rant. I hope you enjoy this piece.

Disbanded

The tinkling of a piano cut through the air. The high, trilling notes floated down the hallway on the warm August breeze.

Lorraine knew she should simply return to study hall, but surely the teacher wouldn’t care too much if she took another minute or two longer to return from her restroom break? She clutched the hall pass in her hand as she let her feet carry her the wrong way down the hall.

As she approached, the musical sounds paused briefly. She also halted in her tracks for a moment, waiting to see if the unknown piano player would continue.

The notes began again, haltingly, and an octave lower than they had previously been. The melody formed with each note played, and while the execution was hesitant and awkward, she soon recognized the song. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. She’d know it anywhere. Beethoven used to play in the background while her mother sat on their front porch, painting landscapes to her heart’s content. Painting was her favorite hobby for many years, and she used music to guide the strokes of her brush and the colors she selected.

Her mother hadn’t painted in more than a year. Financial strain drove her to work longer hours, and she no longer had the time. And when she did have a spare hour or two, she hadn’t the inspiration.

Unfortunately, Lorraine knew what it felt like to lose an artistic outlet. The music room should have been utterly silent during this hour, hence why she was drawn to the unexpected melodies. She crept forward and, reaching the door, peered inside.

She didn’t know who she expected to find, but she was still surprised to see Henry Phipps. He hunched over the piano, guiding his fingers across the keys, the depth and beauty of the notes discordant with his torn, faded t-shirt. His shaggy blond hair fell into his face as he played, and Lorraine wondered how in the world that didn’t interfere with his ability to read the music.

An inharmonious sound marred the moment as Henry’s fingers faltered. He paused to compose himself, and Lorraine took that as her chance to make her presence known. Lingering for much longer would only feel creepy.

“What are you up to?” she asked.

Henry turned from the piano to look at her. “Oh, I got permission to practice here. I mean, the room is free now, so…”

“Yeah. That makes sense.” A pang of sadness twisted her stomach. The room shouldn’t have been free. Wouldn’t have been free, except the school didn’t have a band director anymore. Not because the position had been eliminated, but because no one had applied for the job. She’d heard parents talk about the shortage of teachers before, but this was the first year she had been directly impacted by the problem. She thought of her clarinet and how it had been sitting in the corner of her room for far too long. The school band had been, in a word, disbanded. The silent joke failed to lighten her mood.

“I just asked Principal Robbins. She thought it was a great idea. Better than letting the room go unused.

Lorraine nodded. “It didn’t occur to me to ask.”

Henry’s smile brightened. “Maybe you could. There’s plenty of time in the day, and after school. If we got enough people interested, we might even be able to practice together.”

“Start our own band, you mean?” Lorraine laughed to herself, but not because the idea seemed ludicrous. In fact, it could be fun.

He shrugged, perhaps taking her laughter for mockery. “Just a thought.”

She offered a reassuring smile “A good thought. I’ll think about it.”

He smiled in return and turned back to his music. As the notes filled the room once more, Lorraine knew she should be thinking about going back to her classroom, but the melody kept her feet planted to the ground while her mind took flight, giddy with new possibilities.

Express Yourself: Songs That Make Me Sing Along

For those of you looking for my C post for the A to Z Challenge, you can find it HERE.

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is co-hosted by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The question for this week is: Do you have a song or songs that you belt out in the car, shower, etc.?

Well, I've never been one to sing in the shower, mostly because my voice sounds ten times louder, and I have a singing voice that could bring down entire armies, leaving them covering their ears and begging for the end.  Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but not by much.

If I'm alone in the car, however, there are certain songs I have to sing along to if I hear them on the radio.  If I'm home alone, I might also sing along to them on my stereo.  Some of them may be somewhat embarrassing or strange, but I'll share them anyway.

"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers
"Don't Bring Me Down" by Electric Light Orchestra
"Inside Out" by Eve 6
"Bitch" by Meredith Brooks
"Come Sail Away" by Styx
"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Monty Python's Life of Brian

Why can't I stop myself from singing when I hear these songs?  I have no idea.  I love plenty of songs that don't have that effect on me, but these do.

What songs are you compelled to sing along to?

Inspiring Song Lyrics

Hey everyone!  I'm in need of some inspiration, so I decided to go through some song lyrics that have always spoken to me.  Here I'll share a few lines that mean something to me. Music has always been an inspiration for me, so maybe these lines will say something to you as well.

"I'll make it to the moon if I have to crawl . . ."
-"Scar Tissue" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Taste the memories running from my eyes."
-"Under a Glass Moon" by Dream Theater

"Face each day with both eyes open wide/And try to give, don't keep it all inside."
-"The Answer Lies Within" by Dream Theater

"If we could, say that forever/Is more than just a word."
-"Everything Changes" by Staind

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking/Racing around to come up behind you again/The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older/Shorter of breath and one day closer to death."
-"Time" by Pink Floyd

There's a mixture of positive and negative feeling in these words, but they all make me think.

Now, I wanted to share an excerpt from a song that means a lot to me to go with the lines I selected above.  Unfortunately, I couldn't decide on an individual part of the song to share, because all of it speaks to me.  This was the first song to play at my wedding reception, and I loved it before that.

                             "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No nothing else matters

Thanks for allowing me to share these inspiring lyrics with you.

Which words, whether they come from a poem, a song, or a book, inspire you most?

Express Yourself: Music of Your WIP or Life

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is made possible by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

The question this week is: What band, singer, or group would be featured MOST in your WIP and/or life?

There are so many amazing bands out there that it's hard to choose.  Still, I'll make a short list of bands that stick out most in my mind.

The Beatles (because their music will be awesome forever)
Coldplay (for those quiet or romantic moments)
Dream Theater (because their music rocks)
Metallica (their music rocks too)

What bands would feature primarily in the soundtrack to your WIP or life?

Express Yourself: Oh, the Anticipation!

The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted by the always amazing Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.

This week's question is . . .

(drumroll)

Are there any books, movies, or music you're anticipating for in 2013?

Every year brings something great to the world, and I'm sure this year will be no different.  There's one book I cannot help but anticipate.  As an avid Neil Gaiman fan, I was excited to hear about his upcoming adult novel The Ocean at the End of the Lane.  He always manages to whip up amazing tales, so this is one book I know I'll have to read.  It comes out June 18th.

As far as movies go, there are two I'll mention here.  They are Star Trek Into Darkness and Catching Fire.  I've seen these two movies on lists already, but that's hardly a surprise.

Music is a different story.  I'm not eagerly awaiting the release of any particular album.  Instead I'll listen freely to what comes out.  As always, I'll come to love new songs in the coming year, and there will also be new ones that will rub me the wrong way.  Such is life.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Express Yourself: Holiday Songs

It's time for another Express Yourself Weekly Meme post.  Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests provide great prompts each week

What are a few of your favorite holiday songs?

All in all, Christmas music isn't my favorite.  I don't like the idea of listening to it every day for an entire month before the actual holiday.  In general, I don't do much with music for any holiday, so I'm not picking on Christmas when I say this.

However, I do love Trans Siberian Orchestra.  Pretty much all of my favorite Christmas music comes from this group.  I love the big sound they produce.  I'm not sure how else to describe it.

This song, "Music Box Blues", features fantastic vocals and great sound.  Love it!

I also love it when Trans Siberian Orchestra teams up with Metallica.  How could that ever be wrong?  When I hear "Carol of the Bells" I am filled with awesomeness!

Now, here I'm going to admit something.  I have friends who might strangle me for admitting this.  I hope none of you will judge me badly for this.  In fact, many of you will probably be scratching your heads about why I'm prefacing this song in this way.  Don't worry, I'll explain why.

Here's "Christmas Canon."  There is also a rock version called "Christmas Canon Rock."

Okay.  In what is already a video-filled post, I'm not worried about posting one more.  The "Christmas Canon" is basically "Pachelbel's Canon in D" with a holiday twist to it.  Most of you have probably heard that one played at weddings, or in various other ways throughout the course of your life.  You can hardly escape it. A friend of mine in college grew to hate this song with a passion for that reason alone.  I don't have this strong hatred, though I learned many do.  And whether you like the music or not, this skit is hilarious and sums up my friend's position perfectly.  It's definitely worth a watch.  It actually has nothing to do with Christmas music, but I simply must share it.  That's all there is to it.

Express Yourself: Playlist

It's time for another post for the Express Yourself Weekly Meme, brought to us by Jackie @ Bouquet of Books and Dani @ Entertaining Interests.  This is a fun meme and I'm glad I decided to take part in it!

Nov 5-9: Share your playlist for your WIP or for your life.  Or mix and match if you like.

This sounded like fun the moment I read it, and I can tell you, I had a great time picking songs.  I decided to mix and match, because music is just as important to my everyday life as it is for my writing life.  First, I'll give you my life playlist and a little explanation of why each song is important to me.

"Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica
This song, for me anyway, is about being true to who you are and being close to that special someone who understands you more than anyone else.  That bond withstands no matter what anyone else might think of it.  I always loved this song, and it was the first song my husband and I danced to at our wedding. People thought we were crazy for having Metallica as our song, but we insisted on it, because this song means something to us.

"Time" by Pink Floyd
This song sounds amazing, and it's poetic.  I think we all know how easily time can slip by, and each year I feel more and more like I'm letting the years get away from me.  I want so much to make something of myself, and I worry that I might not.  This song is on my personal playlist to remind me not to get complacent and to keep striving for what I want most.

"Float On" by Modest Mouse
The lyrics to this song remind me that, even when you're being hit with wave after wave of bad news, life keeps going.  The good things will come again. Besides, the tune is catchy!

"Hey Jude" by The Beatles
This one is simple.  My husband and I love The Beatles, and we named our oldest son Jude after this song.  Now that he's 3, Jude sings along with this song when he hears it, and he seems to love the idea that they're singing a song about him!

"Pepper" by The Butthole Surfers
The reason for this song being on this list is slightly ridiculous, but also fun.  My father-in-law  gave our son Lyle a nickname before he was even born: Pepper. Apparently the name came from the title of this song.  I like the song, so I guess I can't complain, though I hope he doesn't start school and tell his teacher that his nickname was inspired by a Butthole Surfers song.  Who knows how that would turn out?

Now for my playlist for my WIP.  Technically this isn't the list for the piece I'm working on now, but is instead for my Terra Minor series.  I intend to go back and work on these books next year.  I'm using them for this post because the playlist for this series is the most developed I have.  And the list is indeed for the series as a whole.

"Heaven" by O.A.R.
These books deal, in part, with the issues associated with prejudice.  This song celebrates being okay with who you are.  If someone won't accept you for you, why would you want to fit into their mold anyway?  It's important to be genuine.

"The Scientist" by Coldplay
This song is about wishing you could go back and undo past mistakes.  One theme in my series is trying to right wrongs and ultimately do what's best for yourself and those around you.  And as the song says, "nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard."  Well, that's often how life is.

"The Inner Light" from Star Trek: The Next Generation

This is a beautiful instrumental piece, and it accompanied a wonderful episode of this series.  For some reason, I see montages of my characters interacting to this song.

"Misunderstood" by Dream Theater
"If I seem superhuman, I have been misunderstood."  My characters in this series have telepathic and telekinetic powers, which they ultimately develop beyond what is normally deemed possible, and they try to do heroic things with these abilities.  Yet, at the end of the day, they still have the same fears and hopes, and are not indestructible.

"The Answer Lies Within" by Dream Theater
I always felt that the answers to the most important questions concerning who we are and what our purpose might be lie within ourselves.  This is a theme in this series, because my characters have to make crucial decisions about what they want while taking into account how it will impact the rest of the world. Here's a small excerpt to show why I think this song rocks.

Don't let the day go byDon't let it endDon't let a day go by in doubtThe answer lies within

Life is shortSo learn from your mistakesAnd stand behindThe choices that you make

"Throw Me Away" by Korn (Acoustic version from MTV Unplugged)
I love Korn in general, but something about this acoustic version sounds haunting to me.  I can see this being the song for a character whose been down-trodden by for so long they don't know to expect anything else.  In this series, there are a couple of characters who fit this description.

"Everything Changes" by Staind (Acoustic Version)

This is my favorite version of the song.  It just sounds amazing.  I picked this song, because every relationship has its bad moments.  Some survive them, others don't.  Either way, in those bad moments, you think back on all the things you could have done differently.  In my books, even the most solid relationships waver after being subjected to the strains of war.

Anyway, I could go on forever with more music, but I think that's enough for now.

Genre Favorites Blogfest

Welcome!

It's time for another fantastic Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh blogfest.  He has a way of engineering truly epic blogosphere gatherings, and a ton of equally groovy people have signed up to participate.  How could I resist taking part in this?

The objective is simple.  To quote our host:

One blogfest, four favorites!
List your favorite genre of:
Movie
Music
Books
And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories!

Movies, books and guilty pleasures!  Oh my!

Movie Genre: Science Fiction

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
I love movies!  When it comes down to it, I like quite a few genres.  I enjoy a good action flick, provided of course that it has a solid story, and a strong female character always helps!  However, my all time favorite movie genre has to be science fiction.  In the end, it's no contest.  I love the diversity involved in sci fi, like otherworld settings, character background, and conflicts that arise with the use of technologies we can only dream of at this point in time.  There's also a lot of adventure, and a lot of complex questions.

The visuals can also be fun!

Music Genre: Rock

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Music is something that can be particularly hard to pinpoint.  There are so many genres and subgenres to choose from.  However, in general, I tend to like more rock music than any other. Whether it be indie rock, hard rock, metal, or rock of the softer persuasion, I'll give it a chance.

I grew up with classic rock as a kid.  That was the music my parents listened to.  During the weekends, my dad would work outside with classic rock blaring over the radio, and later on we would grill out to the same radio station.  I guess it was inevitable.

Book Genre: Science Fiction

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
For those who know me, this is an obvious choice. My love for science fiction has been a consistent factor in my life.  I grew up watching it, and I grew up reading it.  My home was packed full of sci fi gems, because that's what my dad read.  Any time he loved a book, he recommended that I read it.

Again, as it is with movies, I love science fiction books because of the questions they raise.  And there's a wide range of questions to be asked. That's part of why I write within the genre.  I like to ask those questions that deal with the nature of humanity, and with where we might be going as a species.  I also love creating exotic and fascinating worlds that I could never see in person.

Guilty Pleasure Movie:  Bad Movies

Okay.  I don't really feel all that guilty about admitting this.  Again, I grew up watching the bad B budget movies that everyone made fun of.  I watched MST3K religiously for a good reason.  I enjoyed making fun of these movies.  While I didn't consider many of them good, I thoroughly enjoyed watching them.
Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Maybe that's the essence of a guilty pleasure. You know it's not good, but you enjoy it in spite of that knowledge.  It doesn't change the fact that you love it.

I enjoyed watching old Godzilla movies with my dad, even though I knew they had their ridiculous elements and inconsistencies.  I am also an Ed Wood fan. Yes, I admit it.  I like Ed Wood movies.  They may be bad, but I find them fun.

And for the record, Plan 9 From Outer Space is a bad movie in many respects, but I know for a fact I've seen worse.  If I can enjoy watching something, no matter how badly made or conceived, that alone earns it some points with me.

Blogspiration 15: Poetic Catharsis

Blogspiration is a weekly meme hosted by GrowingUp YA& Saz101. The meme was created to help spark inspiration among bloggers, readers & writers alike. An inspirational quote/picture/video is posted weekly, on the day of the author's choosing, so that it may inspire creativity, conversation & just a little SOMETHING.

First of all, I'd love to thank Saz101 for her Blogspiration post this week!  She did me the wonderful honor of quoting something I wrote. The quote comes from a previous Blogspiration post, which you can view HERE.  I merely wrote it as an explanation for why the inspiration I chose for the week had meaning to me, and I was quite surprised to see that my words meant something to her.  I guess the goal of writing words that leave an impression on a reader is one that all writers share. However, I find that I'm deeply surprised when it seems that I've accomplished that goal.

The holiday weekend has left me a tad off schedule, so I figured I'd do double duty and make this Blogspiration post count as my usual Tuesday post as well. That means I'll be sharing a couple of things with you. Hopefully none of you mind.

I'll start off by saying that I love song lyrics.  A song is poetry put to music.  In translating poetry to a musical form, you give that poetry a power that the words alone may not always accomplish.  The sound of the melody and the feel of the rhythm resonate with people.  They feel the music in their bones, and sometimes it even becomes a permanent part of them.  In many ways, music is an essential part of us.  And when a piece of music sinks inside and begins to change us, the words rewrite who we are to become.  This is an awe inspiring power, and definitely one to be respected.

Here is a line from a song that had this kind of impact on me.  The visual it inspired has always stuck with me, and I see it as the theme of my life.  I only hope I'll live up to it.

Background Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
I want to make it to the moon, but I have a long way to go.  While I would love to literally go to the moon, in this context, making it to the moon would be to become a well-respected and accomplished writer.

The next thing I wanted to share comes from my poetry collection.  This is poetry I wrote many years ago.

My poetry may not have the benefit of musical accompaniment, but it expresses what I felt at the time it was written, so it remains significant to me if to no one else.  These words are emotions frozen in time, and looking back on these poems, I find that even after the passage of time, I can still relate to the sentiments expressed here.

The first poem was written for a class assignment when I was 14.  I listed it here because it was, in part, inspired by the song lyrics I already shared with you.

Background Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Yeah, I have an obsession with the moon and any other celestial object.  That much is probably obvious to my regular readers.

I don't remember what year I wrote this next poem, but it had to be in high school.  I performed this poem in a high school speech competition.  This poem helped me get to the state competition, but I didn't quite make it to the all-state competition.  Oh well.

I still feel the same determination to succeed now as I did then, maybe even more so.  Now that I have a family to take care of, the possibility of success matters more than ever.  In that way, this poem is still relevant to my life, and I'm proud that I wrote it.

Background Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
I'll leave you with that.  Thanks for allowing me to share these things with you, and I hope you enjoyed them.

My First Award!

I was surprised to get a message this morning telling me that I've been given my first blogging award.  That little piece of news is a good addition to an otherwise difficult day.  Thanks to Gossip_Grl for giving me the honor of this award.

Of course, these things come with responsibility.  I have to answer ten questions and share ten random facts about myself.

1. What is your favorite song?  There are so many to choose from, but I'll offer one that says something important about me.  I'd have to pick "The Scientist" by Coldplay.  Why, you may ask?  Listen to the lyrics.  It talks about going back in time to change something.  It may sound sad, and it certainly is, but as a science fiction writer, time travel is a possibility, and I envision a happy ending every time I hear it.  The music video is also good, so I recommend checking it out.

2. What is your favorite dessert?  Tossup between two wonderful pies: French Silk and Lemon Meringue.

3. What ticks you off?  So many pet peeves to choose from.  I think I generally disdain hateful people who have no problem lying to make their point.  They're impossible to argue with, and our world seems to be crawling with them.

4.  When you're upset, what do you do?  Listening to music helps me channel my emotions nicely.  Depending whether I'm sad or angry, I have a playlist designed to put me back into balance.

5.  What is your favorite pet?  Jessie, my big yellow lab/golden retriever mix.  Big and lazy, friendly and lovable.  She was a great dog.  When I was in sixth grade, we accidentally ran her over in the driveway.  She had a broken leg, and the vet suggested we have her put to sleep.  We didn't, and she lived a few more years after that.  She had a limp, but she was still happy.

6.  Which do you prefer, black or white?  I guess it depends.  I prefer most of my electronics to be black, and most of my clothes because white stains.  However, white brightens things up.  A fresh white sheet of paper sure brightens my day.

7.  What is your biggest fear?  Losing my ability to write would be terrible.  I also worry about all the bad things that could happen to my family, though these certainly aren't productive fears.  Maybe I should be afraid of being too afraid.

8.  What is your attitude?  Attitude?  Are you saying I have an attitude?  Just kidding!  I think I try to find the funny things in life when the sad, heavy moments of life really hit me.  And I put most of my emotions into writing so they don't get in the way of the rest of my life.

9.  What is perfection?  It is a Borg concept, and one I know I will never achieve.  You need cybernetic implants for that, and I just don't have the money to buy them right now.

10.  What is your guilty pleasure?  Dark chocolate with raspberry filling, eaten with fresh dark roast coffee.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

10 Random Facts About Me

1.  I LOVE spinach!

2.  When I was a teenager, I invented the perfect man in a novel I wrote.  He's still one of my favorite characters, and I fear my husband may have been jealous of him at one point.

3.  I actually enjoy peanut butter and pickle sandwiches.

4.  I enjoy watching bad science fiction movies almost as much as I enjoy good ones.  Maybe I've seen too much MST3K.  There are, however, some movies in this world that are still too bad for even me to watch all the way through.

5.  Though I can't sing, I do it when no one else is around.

6.  I have entire conversations with the fictional characters I create.  I know they aren't real, but my dialogues with them wouldn't show that.  One of these days I may end up in a padded room by mistake.

7.  Yes, my hair is naturally this shade of red.  I've had so many people ask that question and grab my hair to examine my roots, it's insane.

8.  Every time I write something, I second guess myself.  I really need to quit doing that.

9.  The fact that there are so many good people in the world and so many bad people in the world is mind boggling to me.

10.  Every time I see reality TV, I wonder what an alien race who'll eventually receive that transmission will think of us.  The same goes for those really bad gross-out comedy movies.

Wow, it was hard to think of all those things.  Now, here's the even harder part. Picking 7 others to get this award.

It took me forever to compile this list, because there are so many deserving blogs I love to read.  I tried to give it to people who haven't gotten it before, but I may have failed once or twice.  I'm not really sure.

1.  Gina at Modern World
2.  Super Earthling
3.  Lil Dreamer at Reality Challenged
4   Andrea Teagan at The Enchanted Writer
5.  Miss ALK at Confessions of a Maine Teenager
6.  Donna Hole
7.  Krista McLaughlin at The Jelly Beans of Writing

I love so many of your blogs, it really was hard to choose.  Keep up the good work everyone!
