Celebrate the Small Things-Week 19

It's Friday, which means it's time to Celebrate the Small Things with VikLit!

I have a few things to celebrate this week.

First of all, my youngest Lyle was playing on the playground when he fell off a ladder.  I had been momentarily distracted by my oldest getting himself into trouble, so I failed to avert the accident.  A fall of five feet onto the rocks below is never fun, and when a two year old does it, it looks quite scary.  He cried, but fortunately he was fine.  He didn't even have any bumps or bruises to speak of, and he was running around and playing again within a few minutes.  I still felt guilty, but let's face it.  Kids will have accidents in spite of our best efforts to prevent them.  I'm just celebrating the fact that my kids are safe and healthy.

We also had a tornado warning here.  While my husband was at work, my kids and I got to spend a half an hour in the basement.  No tornado actually touched down, so I'm celebrating that.  With the horrific tornado that tore through Oklahoma this week, there's no escaping the realization of how bad tornadoes can be.

My nephew Asher turns one on Saturday, so that's another thing to be happy about.

Saturday is also Towel Day.  To celebrate the life and works of Douglas Adams, I'm hosting the Towel Day Blogfest.  I starts today, and runs through the end of the day on Monday.  Anyone participating need only post once during that time, and the post can be pretty much anything to do with Douglas Adams and his work.  I'll be posting on Saturday, so feel free to stop by and check out my tribute.

What would you like to celebrate?

  1. I'm so glad your son is okay. I remember when my son fell from a 14 foot slide and I caught him before his head hit the ground. It still make me shake. And thank God--no tornado!!

  2. My youngest just fractured his arm a couple of weeks ago. Being a parent is never dull.

Got my first Towel Day post up today!

  3. Glad your son was all right and there was no tornado!
Have a happy towel day tomorrow.

  4. Kids getting hurt is definitely no fun but happy to hear he was ok and no tornado is always a welcome thing.
Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. So glad there wasn't a tornado, I think we all know how devastating they can be, especially after the one in Oklahoma.
Also glad your son is alright. I get really worried about my pets hurting themselves, I can't imagine what I'll be like when I have kids!

  6. I'm so glad your son is ok! I love kid's ability to cry as if they're dying and then be back up running around the playground faster than your worry can possibly dissipate!

And thank god you guys didn't get hit with any level of tornado- I'd be really frightened, too.

And I'm doing my Towel Day post tomorrow, too! Thanks so much for hosting this! I'm excited.

  7. Glad your little guy is okay. That would scare me! Enjoy your long weekend. :)

  8. Double glad... no tornado and that Lyle didn't hurt himself... the thought of it scares me with my two yr old twins :-/ Ah well, it all turned out ok. Have a wonderful weekend :)

  9. God bless you for your spirit! So glad the tornado never touched down, and thank goodness that kids have such malleable tissues! God knew what he was doing, knowing that parents can't be there all the time. Writer’s Mark

  10. Glad your little one is okay. Best of the weekend to you!

  11. Glad on the no tornado and little one being okay fronts!

  12. Whew. When my youngest was 5 he jumped into a rockery full of cacti. He did end up having a general anaesthetic to get them all out but was no worse for wear and running around like a flea in a fit straight afterwards. Children are far more resilient than we think - God made them that way so that they could survive childhood, despite us... :)

I'm very happy the tornado decided to go elsewhere. We don't have those here in South Africa but have had very strong winds on occasion which have uprooted trees - nothing like a tornado. Thank You, Lord!
